Blogger Beta v.2
I couldn't wait to see what all the hype was about so I created a new account to check it out. Answer: NOT MUCH.
- Still can't make three columns. Damn you blogger, I want a three column template!
- Forget that, I can't even seem to move my links etc from the right to the left!
- All those new templates by the best web designers? Not seeing them.
- The link creating device - not so handy. I wonder if it's even possibly to categorise my links the way they currently are done. it's still not as easy to handle as the previous cutting and pasting method I had going. I've managed to divide up the links but previously moving the links was easy and now it's a fair bit harder. When I'm able to edit html with this template it should be easier.
- From what I can see you'll still need to tinker around with the basic html code if you want to use Statcounter/Haloscan etc. Of course, since blogger now provide their own comments I guess the idea is not to use Haloscan. I'm not quite sure how I feel about that.the problem with this is of course that you're not yet allowed to tinker with the html if you're using the layouts system I've managed to add Statcounter; still working on the Haloscan.
- Sooner or later you'll need to switch to a google account to access blogger. If you don't want to, tough.
- On my test blog, my archive dates show up in French. Despite repeated changes to English and fiddling. Have now managed to fix this.
- something else annoyed me - have forgotten what now. Have now found the problem that I can't get my outgoing links to open in new windows. Grrrrrrrrr. This is annoying - I can do the right-clicking but am used to just clicking out from this blog. Two Quite a few words: not impressed. If you're an html muppet and find looking at page sources to find out how to do things scary, this is for you. If you've spent the last three years struggling (and coping) with Blogger's lack of functionality, there's not much that's new.
